With permission from the family, we are setting up this GoFundMe to help Jed and his family.
This fund is to support him and his family as they navigate through this very tough time in their lives.
Jed feels like extended family to his community, and he holds a very special place in our hearts. As a close friend of Jed’s stated, “Jed is always there for everyone, he would take his shirt off his back. Give his own fishing rod if needed. Now is the time to come together for one of the biggest supporters.” This sums it up perfectly and I’m sure that anyone that knows him feels the same. Let’s show Jed how much we all love him.
On Monday morning, March 9, Jed was in a motor vehicle accident. He was first taken to Terrace and then medivaced to Vancouver. The main concern remains severe traumatic head injury. He underwent emergency surgery, where doctors were able to drain a significant amount of bleeding and remove a clot. Since then, he has slowly been waking up and showing us signs that he is indeed one of the strongest people we know. This is the last update from the family on how he is doing:
March 15: Although Jed remains in ICU, he has made some positive progress today. His breathing tube has been removed, and he is much more awake. He has been able to say quite a few words and respond to questions. As he manages the discomfort and confusion of waking up, there have also been quite a few “fucks” mixed in, which feels like a good sign that his personality is still very much there.
There are still many unknowns and a long road ahead, but we are very encouraged to see these steps forward. Thank you all for continuing to hold him in your thoughts and for the incredible support.
If you would like to visit, please check in with the family regarding visiting times so we can make sure we’re accommodating the rest he needs.
He has already received so much support both through personal and public messages and financial support, so his family is able to sit by his side. It is obvious how loved he is.
For those who don’t know him, here are some reasons to come to his aide at this time. Ever since he was born, Jed has been a force! He has always taken on life as something to live loud and large. He has faced some challenges in life as well and somehow always found a way to come out on top, because of his own determination and the support from others. He is an avid fisherman and loves being outdoors. He is an incredibly hard worker and always generous with the money he makes from his job. He also tries to find opportunities to help others if they need some work. It’s hard to put into words why we love Jed – he loves a good prank, watching you squirm when he gets one over on you, but he also gives some of the best hugs out there and wears his heart on his sleeve. If you are in need, he will come to your aide, with no questions asked and he will be there to celebrate with you when that’s what life calls for. One thing that is clear is how much he loves his family and especially his nieces and nephews! He is “favourite Uncle Jed” to not only his sisters' kids but all of his extended brothers and sisters. He always comes equipped with candy, gifts and jokes to make their worlds brighter.
The funds we raise will be used to help with anything that the family & Jed need during this challenging time. Jed’s family has come together in Vancouver to support him and share all of the love coming his way. Without doubt, this will be a long road to recovery, and they will need all the help they can get. Let’s come together and make it happen! Thank you for all your love and support in every way that it is given.
