My mother, Jean Brandon, is 77 years old with Cancer (Stage 3 - Invasive Melanoma) and widowed. She has been on immunotherapy for two years and due to start radiation in a couple of weeks. In mid-September, she received an eviction notice after almost 13 years at this apartment. Suddenly, she has 60 days to vacate the premises that had become her home and it was her understanding she would be there until her life ended. The landlady did not have any issues with the rental agreement or her. She said that she needs the apartment for another purpose.

My mother has lived at the Outer Banks (Kill Devil Hills or near Manteo, NC) for most of her life. She knows that finding an apartment will be extremely difficult.

She is looking for a one-bedroom apartment that will allow her dachshund, has a year-round lease, and is located anywhere on the north end of the Outer Banks, north of Nags Head, to Manns Harbor or Moyock, NC, and anywhere in between.

She urgently needs help to pay for first month’s rent, last month’s rent, security deposit ($2000 per month X 3 = $6000) and pet deposit ($250). Also, she needs moving supplies ($300), a moving van rental ($80) and a few guys to do heavy lifting ($30 per hr x 8 hrs x 2 people = $480). So, she needs a grand total of $7,110, rounding up for $7,500 for unexpected expenses.

Please help. She says that she doesn’t want to end up putting her stuff in storage and living out of her car with a dog.
