Help Jeanne Return Home

Donation protected

My mom has always been a light in this dark world. Born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario, Jeanne excelled as a cross country runner and a track and field athlete spending many summers at her family cottage swimming, boating, and playing badminton. Amongst being naturally gifted, her true gift was kindness and compassion. A willingness to always help, to put everyone before herself and often went without, so those around her could thrive.

Jeanne began to experience troubling symptoms in 2013. After many tests and trips to the doctors, an MRI determined her final and devastating diagnosis 3 days before Christmas in 2013: Multiple Sclerosis.

Multiple Sclerosis is a disabling disease of the brain and spinal cordwith symptoms such as extreme fatigue, lack of coordination, weakness, tingling, impaired sensation, vision problems, bladder problems, cognitive impairment, and mood changes. There is no cure for multiple sclerosis. Treatment typically focuses on speeding recovery from attacks, slowing the progression of the disease, and managing MS symptoms. Her life has changed forever.

With her loving husband by her side, my mom has already gone through numerous treatment options, most of which had crippling side effects, from trial medications to infusions. Ultimately, each treatment option failed.

Jeanne has not been able to work since April 2018. She has not driven since then and is no longer able to walk. She has lost all her independence. Mom was taken by ambulance after an MS attack and admitted to the St. Catharines General on May 12th, 2020. She has been at the Hotel Dieu Shaver since May 28th. Upon discharge, it is very clear that Jeanne's loving home of over 25 years needs many drastic changes to accommodate her basic needs. This lifelong circumstance and on-going battle with this disease has been financially paralyzing and without your help she might not be able to return to a functioning home. This is our chance to help her regain some of that independence back by being able to function on her own in an accessible home.

She will need a ramp or wheelchair lift installed immediately. Our house must undergo immediate bathroom renovations to accommodate a fully accessible space with handrails, walk in shower, floating sink, etc., a brand-new hospital bed at home, health care materials and equipment. Jeanne will need financial support for PSW and home care, home and vehicle modifications and renovations and ongoing medical equipment and supplies since she does not qualify for any government funding. This matter is urgent as we desperately want her home, safely and comfortably.

Our family would like to send an extra-special thank you for your donation consideration. If you would be so kind, we ask you to help us spread the word by sharing her story on Facebook. We appreciate your kindness at this difficult time for our family, any small amount will help my mom in making our house her home again.
