Help Jean-Luc in His Final Chapter After MND Diagnosis

Internationally Renowned Chef Diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease
French-born Chef, loving father and treasured team member of Tassis Group, Jean-Luc Morcellet has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
After more than 40 years of dedication in the kitchen, Jean-Luc is now facing an unimaginable battle — MND is a progressive and terminal neurological condition. MND attacks the nerves that control voluntary movement, gradually robbing people of their ability to walk, speak, eat, and eventually breathe.
For Jean-Luc, the signs began subtly: fatigue that couldn’t be explained, a drooping neck, and a strange weakness in his arms. Everyday tasks like lifting pots, unscrewing jars, and even holding a knife became frustratingly difficult. What followed was a long and uncertain road to diagnosis — blood tests, MRIs, specialists — all inconclusive for months. In the meantime, the disease was taking hold.
He began to lose weight rapidly, eventually shedding 15kg in just two months. Walking became painful and exhausting. His speech started to fade, sleep became broken, and breathing grew difficult. All of this while still trying to work — still trying to be the leader in the kitchen that he had always been.
“I felt ashamed that I was struggling so much but couldn’t explain why. I knew I was still good at my job, but my body was saying otherwise.”
Why We're Asking for Help
• Jean-Luc does not have access to full NDIS support. This fundraiser aims to help him and his family face what’s ahead with dignity and practical support. Funds raised will go toward:
• Vital medical equipment, such as an adjustable bed, electric wheelchair, and BiPAP breathing machine
• Ongoing care including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and neurological support
• Support to replace Jean-Luc’s lost income, and eventually his wife’s, who will soon need to leave work to become his full-time carer
• To help honour Jean-Luc's wish to return home to France to live his last days
Time is short. MND moves quickly and cruelly. Jean-Luc is doing all he can to preserve his independence for as long as possible, but the road ahead will require significant help — both emotionally and financially.
A Message from Jean-Luc
“This fundraiser means everything to me and my family. Without it, I don’t know how we’ll manage what’s coming. We’re doing our best to stay positive and take each day as it comes, but the grief for what’s being lost — the life, the career, the independence — is real. I just want to get my affairs in order and spend whatever time I have left with peace of mind.”
How You Can Help
Any amount you can give will make a real difference. Whether it's $10, $100 or more, your generosity will help Jean-Luc access the care and equipment he needs to live with comfort, dignity, and the support of those he loves most.
Thank you for standing with him during this time.
