Help Jean Roth Heal: Support for Life-Changing Pressure Sore Reconstructive Surgeries and Recovery
A Lifetime of Resilience Meets an Urgent Need

For over 50 years, Jean has faced the world from her wheelchair, a paraplegic since a devastating logging truck accident in her 20s during the late 1960s. What began as a life-altering injury has never defined her spirit—she's raised a family, built deep connections while volunteering, and embraced every challenge with unwavering grace. But now, in later years, Jean is battling a severe complication that's testing her strength like never before: advanced Stage 4 pressure sores.
Since August 2, 2025, Jean has been in and out of three different hospitals, fighting a painful tailbone infection and massive 7-inch-wide pressure sores on her back and thigh. These wounds have exposed muscle and bone, turning daily life into a constant battle against infection and unrelenting complications. What started as a routine health concern has escalated into a medical emergency, requiring multiple complex surgeries and extended hospital stays that our family simply can't afford on our own.
The Road to Recovery: Complex Surgeries and Long-Term Care
Jean's treatment plan is intensive, involving a series of reconstructive surgeries to save her life and restore her quality of life. These Stage 4 pressure sores demand specialized interventions to remove infection, rebuild tissue, and promote healing—processes that can take months, if not years, with a high risk of recurrence. Here's what lies ahead:
Surgical Interventions
Debridement: Surgeons carefully remove necrotic (dead) and infected tissue to create a clean, healthy wound bed essential for healing.
Skin Grafts and Flap Reconstruction Surgery: To close these deep, gaping wounds, doctors will use skin grafts or advanced muscle flap techniques, transferring healthy tissue to cover exposed muscle and bone and prevent further damage.
Wound VAC Therapy: A specialized Vacuum-Assisted Closure device will be applied post-surgery to draw out fluids, reduce swelling, and accelerate healing in areas where traditional methods fall short.
Post-Operative Recovery
Recovery won't end with surgery—it's a marathon of dedicated care. Jean will need:
Extended Hospital and Rehab Stays: Weeks or months in specialized facilities for monitoring and wound management.
Home Care Essentials: Specialized mattresses, cushions, and mobility aids for pressure relief; ongoing Wound VAC supplies; and professional nursing visits.
Preventive Measures: Nutrition support, physical therapy, and lifestyle adaptations to minimize recurrence, ensuring Jean can return to the independent, joyful life she cherishes.
These treatments offer life-saving hope, but they come with steep costs: surgical fees, hospital bills exceeding $100,000 already, medications, equipment, and lost wages for family caregivers. Insurance covers only a fraction, leaving us facing overwhelming out-of-pocket expenses.
