I’m Jazz-Ylaine – a Mama, Dance Educator, Reproductive Health Advocate, and Samba Queen. Today, I’m reaching out with an invitation for you to help me bring something deeply meaningful to life: a book about Samba.

For over 21 years, Samba has been my guiding light, my art, my medicine, and my spiritual connection. My journey took me to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, where I lived for almost two years, immersing myself in the deep, ancestral roots of this powerful dance and cultural expression. This journey has shaped me, and now, the Ancestors are guiding me to take this next step: writing a book.

This book will honor the ROOTS of Samba, sharing how to engage in the dance and its culture with the humility and respect it deserves. It will also serve as a vital resource for the global Samba community, addressing current issues of harm and offering solutions for more respectful, culturally-aware engagement.

Why I’m Here Asking for Your Support:

As a single Mama, business owner, and community educator, I wear many hats. My days are full, and writing a book while managing my life and work is a huge undertaking. That’s where YOU come in. I’m seeking $22,000 to allow me to focus fully on writing and completing the book. This includes living expenses, book coaching, editing, marketing, and publishing fees.

Your support will help me create the time and space I need to complete this work and ensure that it’s polished and ready to share with the world. Your contribution gives me the peace of mind to focus on what truly matters: sharing Samba’s legacy with the world.

This book isn’t just a project; it’s a celebration of the Ancestral Spirits and the over 5.5 million stolen Africans taken to Brazil, who carried Samba across oceans and through generations for nearly 500 years. Samba is more than just a dance; it is a story of survival, resistance, and joy!
