My name is Jasmine "Jazzie" "Danger" "Furry" "Rat Mom" "Soundgirl" Starshine and I am a professional, credited, AVID certified recording engineer serving the queer, autistic, alt, punk, indie, whatevercore scene of weirdo creatives!
For the past decade of my career I've worked "In The Box," meaning it has just been me, my laptop, and my headphones in my process. While the mobility has been nice, I've been overdue for a real hardware upgrade for about the past five years and I am ready to expand not only my business, but my professional offerings to clients.
An opportunity has arisen for me to purchase *an entire recording studio's worth of equipment* for an unbeatable price from a retiring engineer looking to exit the world of analog hardware. I've long been an advocate of analog media in the production process and want to bring that fidelity to the communities I create for.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will only be used for the following...
- Purchasing the equipment
- Gas and mileage for a moving van
- Tip for the friends helping me move the mammoth sound board
- Cables, hookups, and miscellaneous parts
- A TASCAM Studio Bridge unit
- Any necessary repairs
- A robust desk to mount the board on
Why is analog gear so much better than just working in Pro Tools on my laptop? To use a gaming analogy, it's the difference between running an emulator and playing on "original hardware." The equipment listed below is the stuff that plugins try to emulate. Often poorly and at great CPU cost to the host system.
The equipment will all be used in the operations of my independent record label and media company. We are a not-for-profit business that offers free professional services and development to up-and-coming artists, all without stealing their revenue like a major label would.
It is important to note that the equipment I am hoping to purchase is a "you never have to upgrade if you don't want to" acquisition. Everything listed below is professional-level gear, with the next reasonable upgrade being a boutique mixing console that range between $25,000 and $100,000. Why is the price so cheap? Soundcraft is a solid brand that has mass-produced sound boards for decades, making them incredibly affordable for the average professional.
Any remaining funds will be donated to TransLifeline, and upon completion of this project, a report will be generated and shared publicly for transparency and assurance that the funds were used appropriately.
Additionally! Anyone who donates $100 or more will be entitled to (reasonable) pro-bono audio work for one (1) year after the completion of this project.
Thank you all for taking the time to check this page, and I cannot wait to begin sharing the art that will come out of the tape! <3
