Jazmín León Bernal is a 17-year-old girl from Guatemala who was diagnosed with lupus at the beginning of this year.

Since then, she has faced this difficult disease with admirable strength and courage.

However, her health is now in critical condition. Jazmín is suffering from internal bleeding, pancreatitis, pleural effusion, heart failure, and kidney damage. Her body is fighting with everything it has, but she needs our help to keep going.

Throughout these months, she has undergone intensive treatments with high doses of steroids and chemotherapy, but unfortunately, they haven’t achieved the expected results. Doctors have now determined that she needs to begin treatment with biologic medications, which are extremely costly.

That’s why we’re raising Q200,000 (approximately $25,000 USD) — an amount that will cover the full medical process Jazmín urgently needs: hospitalization, specialized medications, constant testing, intensive care, and clinical follow-up.

Medical expenses are overwhelming, and sadly, Guatemala’s public healthcare system is not equipped to handle cases this complex. For this reason, Jazmín must continue her treatment in the private sector, where she can receive the specialized and urgent care that gives her a chance to recover.

Jazmín León Bernal es una joven guatemalteca de 17 años que fue diagnosticada con lupus a comienzos de este año.

Desde entonces, ha enfrentado esta dura enfermedad con una fuerza y valentía admirables.

Sin embargo, hoy su salud se encuentra en estado crítico. Jazmín sufre de hemorragia interna, pancreatitis, derrame pleural, insuficiencia cardíaca y daño renal. Su cuerpo está resistiendo con todo lo que tiene, pero necesita nuestra ayuda para seguir luchando.

A lo largo de estos meses, ha recibido tratamientos intensivos con altas dosis de esteroides y quimioterapias, pero lamentablemente no han logrado los resultados esperados. Los médicos han indicado que debe iniciar un tratamiento con medicamentos biológicos, cuyo costo es sumamente elevado.

Por eso buscamos recaudar Q200,000 (equivalente a $25,000 USD), una cantidad que cubrirá todo el proceso médico que Jazmín requiere: hospitalización, medicamentos especializados, exámenes constantes, cuidados intensivos y seguimiento clínico.

Los gastos médicos son abrumadores y, tristemente, el sistema de salud pública en Guatemala no cuenta con los recursos para atender casos tan complejos. Por ello, Jazmín debe continuar su tratamiento en el sector privado, donde puede recibir la atención urgente y especializada que necesita para sobrevivir.
