Help Jayme Heal After Life-Threatening Infection

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Brittney, and I’m organizing this fundraiser for my cousin, Jayme—someone who has always been the kind of person to show up for others without hesitation.

Jayme is a loving wife to her husband, Shawn, and a devoted dog mom to their sweet pup, Sassy. They recently reached an exciting milestone in their lives—buying their first home together. It was the start of a new chapter filled with hope, stability, and dreams for the future.

But what started as a seemingly simple rash and flu-like symptoms quickly turned into something much more serious. After an initial urgent care visit, Jayme’s condition rapidly worsened. Within a week, she was taken to the emergency room, where doctors made a devastating diagnosis: necrotizing fasciitis, a rare and aggressive infection that spreads quickly and is life-threatening.

Jayme was taken into emergency surgery immediately. Doctors warned her family that this would likely be the first of many surgeries and procedures, with a long and uncertain road ahead. During that first surgery, they had to remove a 4x6 inch section of tissue from her lower back.

Because of the severity of her condition, Jayme needed to be transferred to a larger hospital in Madison. With a blizzard grounding all medical flights, she was transported by ambulance while in a medically induced coma—an incredibly frightening journey when Doctors said the first 24 hours after surgery were critical.

Jayme made it through the first critical 24 hrs and has just passed the second milestone of 72 hours with incredible strength. She has undergone multiple surgeries, and thankfully, doctors have not needed to remove additional tissue so far. In a hopeful step forward, she has been woken up and moved out of the ICU and into wound care, where her recovery and healing process will continue.

While this progress is encouraging, her condition remains serious, and the road ahead will be long and full of questions. Recovery from this type of infection often requires ongoing treatment, surgeries, wound care, and rehabilitation.

Throughout all of this, Shawn has been by her side every step of the way—traveling back and forth daily between Janesville and Madison just to be with her. In addition to everything they are facing, Jayme and Shawn also care for Shawn’s mother, who has medical needs and lives with them, adding another layer of responsibility during an already overwhelming time.

Anyone who knows Jayme knows how kind, selfless, and caring she is and now she and her family need our help.

This sudden medical emergency brings overwhelming financial strain. We are raising funds to help cover:

  • Extensive medical bills and multiple surgeries
  • Time away from work and lost income
  • Gas and food money while Jayme remains in the hospital
  • Ongoing care, rehabilitation, and recovery needs
  • Monthly expenses, including their mortgage, so Jayme and Shawn don’t have to worry about losing their home during this fight for her life

Given the severity of her condition and the long road ahead, we have set an initial goal of $50,000 as Jayme begins what will be a long and uncertain recovery to help ease the burden and allow her and her family to focus on what matters most—her healing.

If you’re able to donate, no amount is too small. Every contribution helps lift a piece of the worry off their shoulders. And if you can’t donate, sharing this page and keeping Jayme in your thoughts means more than you know.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
