Help Jaylen and Sam Through This Tough Time
Donation protected
As many of you know, my grandson, Jaylen, has been at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia since November 8th, fighting a heartbreaking battle with chronic diarrhea, vomiting, and a diagnosis of gastroparesis and cyclic vomiting syndrome. If you remember, this isn’t the first time Jaylen has had to endure this. He was hospitalized for the same condition last December, and it led to an 8-week stay.
The doctors have told them that Jaylen has "slow gut motility," meaning his body struggles to recover whenever he catches even the mildest GI bug. With cold and flu season approaching, his condition is even more precarious. The medical team has made it clear that Jaylen is not stable enough to go home on NG feeds right now, because there’s a high risk of him being readmitted within the next 30 days due to dehydration. While he can manage small amounts of food and liquids, he can’t tolerate them for long before it all comes back up. His lab work is showing concerning signs with elevated levels, and sadly, there is no discharge date in sight.
I know that the holiday season is a tough time for many, financially and emotionally, but I’m reaching out to ask for help. Any amount, no matter how small, would make a huge difference. For those who know Sam, you know she is one of the most hard-working, kind-hearted people you will ever meet. She would do anything for anyone, especially for her children. Right now, she is putting everything on the line to be by Jaylen’s side—sacrificing her time, her energy, and even falling behind on bills to make sure he’s not alone in this fight.
What makes this even harder is that Sam also has a 6-year-old daughter, Adeline, who she’s missing terribly while she’s with Jaylen in the hospital. Can you imagine the heartbreak of caring for an ill child while also worrying about the health of your other child, paying bills, and trying to keep up with work and school? It’s almost too much for one person to carry.
We all need a support system, and I’m doing everything I can to be that shoulder for Sam. But right now, she needs our help. I’m asking you to please consider donating to help ease some of the financial burden she’s facing during this incredibly difficult time. And even if you can’t donate, sharing this message will go a long way in raising awareness for Jaylen’s struggle and for Sam’s unwavering strength and devotion as a mother.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support, whether it’s financial, emotional, or simply by sharing this with others. Together, we can help ease their load and bring some hope into their lives.
