Five months ago, we received devastating news: our six-year-old daughter, Jaylah, was diagnosed with leukemia (ALL). What began as a normal night ended us in the emergency room due to pain in her ankles and feet, preventing her from walking. After multiple visits to the ER, we were referred to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, where she was diagnosed almost 45 minutes into our visit. What we initially thought would be a treatable and quick visit turned into a life-altering and traumatic experience for us all, especially Jaylah.
Treatment was initiated immediately. From one day to the next, she underwent multiple procedures, pokes, chemotherapy, and more. We constantly resided at the hospital, doing everything we could to make Jaylah’s stay as comfortable as possible. She has endured various phases of chemotherapy, experiencing different side effects, some of which she has managed to overcome. However, it has been an unending rollercoaster ride!
Starting November 17th, Jaylah will embark on her most challenging phase of chemotherapy, which will span a total of 60 days. During this time, Tyrell (Dad) will take FMLA since mine was utilized during the initial 12 weeks. Fortunately, our state offers excellent FMLA benefits, but we will be facing a significant reduction in our income. Additionally, due to Jaylah’s struggles to attend school and her frequent illnesses, I have had to reduce my work hours. Starting November 17th, Jaylah will be completely out of school for the next two months. This has resulted in challenges in her academic performance, behavior, and overall well-being.
We are diligently exploring all available resources and seeking any assistance possible to help Jaylah regain her joyful and healthy self. We are reaching out for help; any donations for this upcoming phase of chemotherapy would be incredibly valuable. As the holidays approach, hotel stays on snowy days may be necessary to ensure Jaylah’s safe and punctual attendance at appointments. There are also potential possibilities for extended hospital stays, missing work without paid time off, and medical expenses. Any form of assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I kindly request that you continue to pray for Jaylah, providing her with the strength and resilience she needs during this difficult phase. I firmly believe that she will overcome this challenge and that it will soon become a distant memory. #FUCK Childhood cancer! #FightLikeJaylah
