My mother's last words to me were, "I'm sorry. I'm dying. I'm sorry." Those words will stay with me forever. I would never blame my mother for her DV situation ever. It's difficult to go through and my mother was deeply loved by her family and friends.
She faced many serious health challenges, including scoliosis, pericarditis, high blood pressure, anemia, etc. Because of her disabilities, we relied on government assistance, and she was the heart and provider of our household.
Now, at 22 years old, I have stepped into the role of caretaker/second mother for my younger brothers 16 and 12. We are grieving and navigating unimaginable trauma while also trying to rebuild our lives without the one person who held us together. I am asking for support with costs for our foreseeable future. With clothing, shoes, daily necessities and future possible emergencies.
Building a secure foundation is my top priority as I do my best to finish school and recover to work to provide for my brothers.
Every donation and share helps us take the next steps toward healing and stability. Our focus is ensuring my brothers are safe, supported, and move forward despite everything we have endured.
Thank you for standing with us during the hardest time of our lives.
With love and gratitude,
Jaylah Maldonado.
