On Saturday, December 27th, 2025, our world changed in an instant. My stepdaughter Jayla woke up in complete darkness, unable to see anything. Just two days later, she was officially diagnosed as legally blind. Jayla was born with Coloboma, a rare eye condition, but none of us expected her vision to change so suddenly. Jayla was born with this rare eye condition. As the years passed, her eye/ eyes became progressively worse The past week has been overwhelming and emotional for our entire family as we adjust to this new reality and search for ways to help Jayla adapt.

After researching options, we learned about Meta glasses—an incredible tool that has helped many blind individuals read, identify, and interpret information in their daily lives. These glasses could give Jayla the chance to regain some independence and confidence as she navigates the world. We are determined to do everything we can to support her, but the cost of this technology is more than we can manage alone. We are also looking into many new technologies for her to navigate through life with school. Looking for her to get a computer that will dictate her school work. We are looking into more braille options for her as well.
