My sister Jayda has just experienced a devastating house fire that took away everything she owned. She lost her beloved cat, all of her clothes, electronics, and personal belongings—things she worked so hard to build over the years. The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation, but we believe it may have been something electrical. I’m so grateful Jayda wasn’t home when the fire happened. If she had been there that morning, she might not be with us today. She was off work and decided to go get breakfast, and that decision may have saved her life. Jayda has always been careful: she doesn’t smoke, rarely lights candles, and always makes sure to unplug her straighteners and other appliances. Despite all her caution, she now faces the unimaginable task of starting over from nothing.

Right now, Jayda has housing for a few days, but after that she has nowhere to go. The funds raised will go directly toward helping her secure longer-term housing and begin replacing the essentials she lost in the fire.
