Help Jayce Explore with a Wheelchair Accessible Van

Hello,

My name is Christy Castle and I live in Wayne, West Virginia. I am the mother of a 9-year-old boy named Jayce who was born with Arthrogryposis, a rare condition that affects his joints and mobility.

Jayce now uses a large power wheelchair that helps him sit upright and move independently, but unfortunately our family has no vehicle capable of transporting it. Because of this, we often have to carry him or use a wagon when we go places.

At 9 years old, Jayce is at a stage in life where independence means everything. He wants to explore, see new places, and experience the world just like other kids his age. His wheelchair gives him that ability — it allows him to sit upright, move on his own, and truly be part of what is happening around him.

Without a way to transport his wheelchair, that independence is taken away. Instead of being able to move freely and see the world from his own perspective, he is limited in what he can do and what he can experience. We want Jayce to have the chance to grow, explore, and enjoy his childhood with as much independence and freedom as possible.

Jayce has recently been given an opportunity to attend a Shriners accessible camp where children with mobility challenges learn independence and new skills. However, he must have his wheelchair to participate.

Our family has started a fundraiser to help us purchase a wheelchair accessible van so Jayce can safely travel with his wheelchair and participate in opportunities like this.

We know this is a large goal, and we are not expecting to reach it alone. Our family is also working hard to raise money through local fundraisers and community support. Every donation, no matter how small, helps bring us one step closer to getting Jayce the accessible vehicle he needs.

Last year our community came together to support Jayce, and the City of Huntington proclaimed June 30th as “Jayce’s Journey Day” to raise awareness for Arthrogryposis. We would be grateful for the opportunity to share Jayce’s story again and help raise awareness for Arthrogryposis.

Thank you for your love and prayers,
