Hi there! I’m raising money on behalf of my dear friend Jay (aka Jaybird aka Uncle Jimmy). Jay was diagnosed with stage 4 single cell carcinoma on September 19, 2024. This particular type of cancer is aggressive and any recommended treatment can only slow down the spread and size of the cancer and therefore is considered terminal. Jay has completed multiple rounds of chemo, radiation and immunotherapy. Recently, he had a large mass removed from his spine and completed 5 weeks of acute rehab. As a result of the progression of the cancer, Jay is currently wheelchair bound. He is beginning his next round of radiation this week.

Through creating this fund, we are hoping to raise money that would help alleviate some of the financial stress associated with medical bills. Jay is unable to work due to his illness and due to multiple lapses in medical insurance, his medical bills and living expenses are piling up. Jay is in the process of applying for Medicaid and long-term disability, a challenging and frustrating process. Even after his Medicaid is (hopefully) approved, Jay will be faced with medical bills for the times where his insurance lapsed, on top of the out of pocket expenses he has already had for medications and medical equipment/supplies.

Every step of the way, despite chronic pain and discomfort, Jay has remained determined to fight, to spend his time with loved ones and to stay connected spiritually. We hope that this fund can help ease the financial stress so that he can focus his limited effort and energy on these things that matter the most to Jay.
