Help Jax, Our Little Warrior, Fight Leukemia
On Monday, March 3rd, Jax was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and was air lifted to the Vancouver Children's Hospital to begin his treatment immediately. Overnight, the Beatch family’s world was turned upside down.
Jax is the sweetest little boy you’ll ever meet—full of energy, with a smile that melts hearts. He’s a big brother to his 2-year-old sister, Ellie, and the joy he brings to his parents, Tanya and Andrew, is beyond words. Less than a month after his 5th birthday, and within hours after his diagnoses, Jax has begun treatment and is fighting like the brave warrior that he is. This diagnosis has changed everything for Tanya, Andrew and Ellie.
UPDATE: Since arriving at the hospital, Jax has had a team of specialist at his side. He has had multiple spinal taps, one surgery and multiple rounds of chemotherapy with many more to come. This is a very new world that they're navigating and are continuing to learn daily. What they do know at this point is there are 3 stages of treatment with the possibility of more to follow. Stage 1 is the first month which will be spent at BC Children’s in Vancouver receiving the first rounds of chemotherapy treatment. Following that, stage 2 will last for 8-9 months and will be spent at the Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver where he continues to receive chemotherapy at the BC children’s hospital. Lastly, the 3rd stage will last an additional 1-2 years and is hopefully when Jax will be cleared to return home to Vancouver Island where he would receive treatment on a bi-monthly basis at the BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Update 2:.
His basic B cell ALL leukemia they’ve found out through genetic testing is actually BCR-ABL (Philadelphia+) leukemia. It’s quite rare, only affecting about 3-5% of childhood leukemia cases. It’s not necessarily more serious, but just more complicated and harder to treat. Over the past 20 years they’ve actually been able to create a medicine that targets it quite well and although his odds went from around 90% success rate of getting it into remission quickly to approx 65%-70%.
Andrew is self employed, which means that he does not qualify for any form of employment insurance (EI). While he will eventually return to work, he will need to balance that return with caring for Ellie and making time to visit Jax as he gets his treatment away from home. Tanya's EI will be their main source of income for the foreseeable future. Which is why I’ve started this GoFundMe. Your donations will go directly to the family, to help assist them financially as they navigate this devastating and unimaginable situation.
Jax is battling leukemia with everything that he has got, and we’re so proud of him. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, prayers, and love. Together, we can show Jax, Ellie, Tanya and Andrew they're not alone in this fight.
With all my love,
Lee Mueller
