On the night of September 22nd, my brother-in-law Melvin Soto, best known to his family and friends as Javy, was admitted to Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson, Florida for difficulty breathing due to Covid-19. His oxygen level was dangerously low so the doctors immediately began treating him while observing him diligently. Treatment continued throughout the night but in the early hours of the following day things took a turn for the worst. Unfortunately, his lungs had been so ravaged by the virus that the doctors made the decision to immediately begin intubation in order to save his life. It's difficult to put into words what his family and his wife, my sister Jennifer, are going through. Things have gotten a little bit better for him since the first 48 hours of his intubation, but he still has a long road ahead to recovery. He is currently still intubated and in very serious condition, but with proper treatment we are praying that within the next week his body can stabilize enough that the doctors can remove the tubes. With the journey to his recovery also comes the astronomical amount of medical expenses related to these types of treatments, especially when one is uninsured. Our family and his are currently chipping in to help with the medical expenses, but I figured this would be an easy avenue for his friends and family to be able to donate.
