Help Javier WIN His Fight Against Cancer!

Donation protected
Hello family and friends of the Pastrana Family!

On May 9th, 2022, Javier was diagnosed with “high grade follicular lymphoma grade 3B”, a non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This type of cancer usually begins in the lymph nodes and attacks the white blood cells of the immune system.

After several studies (radiology & pathology) and follow up with specialists to customize the best treatment for this B cell cancer, Javier was finally able to receive his first-of 6-chemotherapy on June 14th, 2022. However, complications occurred in reaction to the chemo due to a growing lymphoma mass causing a perforation in his colon. Despite the doctors’ effort to avoid a surgery and to resume his chemo treatment as soon as possible, Javier had to go through a Colostomy on June 28th, 2022. Due to this surgery and further complications, he was hospitalized for 24 days all together.

While blessed to have health insurance and the support from his employer, the additional surgery and additional costs left the family with high out-of-pocket expenses. Javier and Luz-his wife-have not been able to return to work since June because Javier is still in the middle of his chemotherapies which cause extreme fatigue and other side effects that require off work time, he requires care and a special diet from the colostomy.

All those who know Javier and his family, have witnessed them faithfully serving the Lord for years wherever they go. Though they have been leading marriage ministries for over 20 years, their heart for marriages and families prompted them to respond to God’s calling of joining the FamilyLife’s team in 2017. They have blessed many people, leading home groups, marriage conferences, marriage counseling, prayer groups, teaching classes, supporting other churches to start up their couple’s ministry and many other family events.

We consider this fundraiser a great opportunity to help the Pastrana family by easing the financial burden they are under, showing them that they are loved, as love is a verb and therefore requires action, and encouraging them to keep believing God provides.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
