Javier Contreras & his family have recently received devastating news. Doctors found a mass, or abscess, in his brain. This has, understandably, been life-altering news. His severe brain infection diagnosis has affected all areas of motor function, not necessarily all at once. This includes his speech, forming words, walking, severe vertigo, being able to express his frustration, processing information, confusion, as well as being able to cognitively put thoughts & words together. Javier spent 8 days in the hospital & at home is on IV antibiotics, 24 hours a day, lasting several months, then will be on oral antibiotics for an additional several months. He has had some physical therapy but may need more. This has definitely taken a toll on our finances. If you are able to donate anything, great or small, it is truly appreciated. Donations will aid in Javi's care, medical bills, and recovery.

As most of you know, Javier was diagnosed with Stage 4 testicular cancer in 2014 & has been cancer-free for the last 11 years. During chemotherapy, he suffered 2 strokes & an allergic reaction to one of the meds, which damaged his lungs. Subsequently, it led to 8 lung surgeries in the last 7 years.

On Sept. 9, 2024, Javier was physically assaulted by his nephew, which resulted in a broken nose & deviated septum, leaving only 2% oxygen flow through his right nostril for 10 months. A full nasal reconstruction surgery was done on June 6, 2025, to correct the damage. Doctors have said they believe either the day of the assault OR the day he had nasal surgery were possible times the brain infection could have been acquired.
