Help Jasper with his brain lesion

Donation protected
Jasper Ellis Johnson-Seymour born on November 28, 2018, was one of six puppies in a litter. Jasper has always been special; he was born with pulmonic stenosis and was expected to be put down early. However, Ashley and I had other plans for him and his future. Pulmonic stenosis is a heart condition where the pulmonary valve is too small and has to be expanded by a procedure known as balloon valvuloplasty. The original owner of Jasper paid for this surgery in full and after he recovered Jasper was given to us.

For almost two years Jasper lived a wonderful life until October 26, 2020. On this fateful day around 7:00 AM Jasper was running around outside playing with leaves in the wind where he suddenly fell to the floor and began having a seizure. Throughout this day Jasper ended up having 12 grand mal seizures. We rushed Jasper to his specialist in San Diego at Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH), and they ran extensive tests which later would be deemed to be a stroke. A lesion appeared on the right side of Jaspers brain and we put Jasper on anticonvulsant medications on top of his atenolol for his heart.

For the next five months, Jasper lived as if nothing had ever happened. Suddenly on March 1st around 8:00 PM, Jasper had a seizure. Although not as bad as October, we were still concerned. Administering his emergency medicine Jasper was seizure-free for almost 8 hours. On the morning of March 2nd, Jasper had another seizure, and we promptly took him to his specialist. The doctors believed these seizures were due to him finally being at a healthy weight, and all he needed was a higher dosage of phenobarbital, the prognosis seemed simple enough.

Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 12:26 AM Jasper woke up having a seizure in our arms and was not responding to his emergency medication, Midazolam/Clorazepate. Ashley and I admitted him into the Emergency Pet Hospital of Redlands, where they tried to subside the seizures by putting him on Keppra, unfortunately, he was not responsive. We found out at this clinic Jasper had 8 seizures (they told us he only had 3, but the logs showed 8), and is now blind in his left eye and partially blind in his right. He lost a large portion of his motor functions on the left side of his body. The following day, Monday, we brought Jasper to his specialist in San Diego where they did an MRI on his brain again, comparing it to the MRI from October. The lesion grew in size and edema is surrounding the lesion. Our specialist believes this is the cause of Jasper’s seizures, blindness, and poor motor functions in the left part of his body.

For as long as we have had Jasper, he has been the life of the household. Every day he wakes up happy and playful. Jasper is our little superhero. Please help us but most importantly please help Jasper live a normal life.
