Hi, we’re Sierra and Layne, and we’re raising funds to pay for emergency spinal surgery for our sweet 4-year-old dachshund, Jasper, so he can restore his ability to walk.
Jasper is the heart of our little family. We brought him home in 2021 as our very first dog. He’s adventurous, gentle, and full of love. He enjoys camping, fishing, and playing with his little sister June, our second dachshund.
But on August 5, everything changed.
Jasper suddenly lost all use of his back legs due to IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease), a serious spinal condition. One moment he was resting in his crate, and the next he was dragging his legs and crying out in pain. We rushed him to the emergency vet at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital about a 2 hour drive from us.
There, specialists told us Jasper had a herniated disc pressing on his spinal cord. He needed immediate emergency spinal surgery to prevent permanent paralysis and give him a chance to walk again.
His surgery was performed early morning, August 6, and thankfully it went well. But it came at a high cost — quoted between $11,500 and $14,500 — not including travel, post-op care, or recovery needs. We had no time to prepare, and the only way to move forward was to apply for two Care Credit lines and split the cost across both cards and figure out how to pay for it after.
Now we’re doing everything we can to care for Jasper during recovery while also preparing to welcome our baby in December. This year has already been a financial struggle. I was unemployed for months, and Layne has been carrying our shared expenses. We are stretched thin and simply cannot manage this cost alone.
How funds will be used:
- $12,000 toward the cost of Jasper’s spinal surgery
- Any remaining funds will help support his physical therapy and long-term mobility care
We’re asking our community, friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers for help. If you feel moved to contribute or share, your support means the world to us. Every donation brings us closer to easing this burden and helping Jasper walk again.
He’s brought so much joy into our lives, and we just want to give him the chance to run, play, and live pain-free again.
Thank you so much for reading and supporting our little family.
With gratitude,
Sierra, Layne, Jasper, and June
