Jasper came into my life unexpectedly this past June, when I found him as a stray near my apartment. From the moment I met him, he was friendly and affectionate, always running out of the bushes to greet me. For two months, I visited and fed him every day, and eventually realized that the cat distribution system had chosen me. I brought Jasper home, excited to give him the loving home he deserved.

Even before I adopted him, I noticed something was wrong with his hip—his leg stuck out at an odd angle, and he favored it when walking. I’ve included a picture of his hips from before I officially took him in, where you can see the muscle atrophy. After taking him to the vet, X-rays confirmed that Jasper has a dislocated hip. I got second and third opinions, and all the vets agreed: Jasper needs FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery to fix his hip, relieve his pain and prevent future arthritis. Although I have pet insurance for Jasper, they won’t cover this surgery because the injury happened before I adopted him and started coverage. Without surgery, he would need monthly pain medication, and his quality of life would suffer. The vets also warned that delaying surgery could make things worse as he gets older.

Jasper is my whole world and the blessing I didn’t know I needed. He’s such a playful cat, but his injury forces him to hesitate when he wants to play. This surgery would allow Jasper to live pain free and be as active as he wants to be. I want to give him the best quality of life possible, and I would be so grateful for any support to help cover his surgery.
