Lately, I’ve been really struggling to remain active and leave my house due to mobility issues. I have a manual wheelchair, but even the exerting the amount of energy needed to push it sometimes leaves me unable to function the next day. Lately I’ve been dealing with shortness of breath and dizziness from overexertion.
Due to a list of reasons—mostly cost since insurance would never approve me for a power chair (and even if they did it would be one I couldn’t get in and out of my apartment) and internalized ableism—I’ve been delaying getting a power chair for a long time. I think it’s time to just do it so I can have more independent and spend les of my time indoors.
I picked this specific one from EZ lite Cruiser: https://www.ezlitecruiser.com/products/ez-lite-cruiser-deluxe-dx12?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_term=ezlitecruiserdx12&utm_content=pla&utm_campaign=0001&gclid=CjwKCAiAhKycBhAQEiwAgf19eugGCoLoEABePM3GXuLSJGjdFMrmyR-phbAR6E9gzB_YNb2lzmjbAhoCS4wQAvD_BwE
I chose the deluxe version because I feel that it would be better for Boston’s very uneven sidewalks (my manual chair also needed to have specific wheels and huge front casters for this reason). It can also handle grass, gravel, etc.
With this chair, I wouldn’t have to live my life in fear of overexertion as much, and I could have the brain space and general capacity to focus on just living my life.
