Help Jason & Ximena keep housing & pay for rehab

The short version (yes, this one is the short one):

We don’t even know how to start this, or where to even begin to ask for help. We carry so much shame to find ourselves in this position.

We are at risk of being evicted and losing everything we have. We have nothing left.  We find ourselves in the very urgent situation of not even having the money to fill up the gas tank for this week. We support two teenagers, one in rehab, and one at home. We have 5 long-time pets which, if evicted, we would have to surrender to shelters. We desperately need help. Anything you can contribute will help us pay for rent, food, utilities, and gas.

Due to failed promises from an investor in Jason's start-up business, we have been without income since January 2021. The investor was supposed to provide the initial cash flow to cover Jason's salary and the cost of our daughter's treatment in rehab.  Because Jason's business is a tech/analytics business, there are very little costs; practically the only cost is his salary.  By comparison to many other start-ups that require infrastructure, employees, etc., our needs are very small. In spite of this,  the investor has not followed through.

It is now April.  Jason left a job he was at for 13 years because his last salaried position was not enough to cover the cost of our daughter's treatment. He left only after the investor assured us he would "take care" of us and our family.

We were patient. Jason has turned down other investors because this investor assured him it was unnecessary. We were told we would be funded soon, and we were told that for 3 months. We are entering our 4th month without income, and are drowning in debt and late fees.

If we had known that our investor wasn't going to follow through, we would have sought other avenues of income by now. We would have reached out to other investors, or looked for a job with a steady income. There are so many things we put off as a family because we believed we would be taken care of.

Now, after 3 months of no income, our already existing debt has compounded. We never anticipated to be without income for this long. We were told it would be a seamless transition and Jason would get paid immediately upon starting. That's not what happened, and we were strung along for week after week with promises of the funding "from the bank" coming soon.  We just received correspondence from our daughter's rehab facility that if we don't pay the $45k we owe, she will be discharged next week. While our daughter has made tremendous progress from where she started, she still has a long way to go.

Our situation is now dire. We have maxed out every line of credit we have. We haven’t paid at least one car note for 5 to 6 months and are at risk of it being repossessed any day now. We moved to an apartment at the end of 2019 to downsize, and we had to let our house go. We have no clue whether it’s foreclosed on because we just haven’t had the energy to find out. We have had to default on student loans, even after forbearance. We were already in debt prior to this and the impetus for Jason starting his own business was to be able to cover our eldest daughter’s treatment. Because we have been without income for close to 4 months, and because of our existing debt before this, we are at the end of our rope and need help.

What we’re asking for:

We have no clue what “goal” to set because we are so in over our heads that unless we win the lottery or have some other miracle happen, we won’t be able to get ourselves out of even partial debt. But whatever you are able to contribute will help our family survive. After this week, we won’t have the money for gas, food, electricity, and the two months of rent we owe. Anything and every little bit helps. Even if it’s just to keep ourselves fed for the next week.

At this point, we have to seriously consider, depending on how much assistance we get (if any), that we won’t be able to continue treatment at all and we will simply have to house our eldest at a halfway house or the cheapest studio apartment we can find, as she is not safe for our other child to be around. In a perfect world, we would have the money to continue her treatment not just for her, but because we are not yet ready to grapple with her return as a family.

Ideally, or in a perfect world,  we would fundraise $60k
$45k towards our child's rehab treatment, and
→ $15k to help us cover our back rent, food, utilities, missed car payments, and the money to continue paying for therapy and medication for our youngest daughter.

But we would be so grateful or appreciative of ANYTHING.

→ $5k is the bare minimum to pay back rent and ensure we don't get evicted.
→ $6k would get us through rent and food and utilities for this month.
→ $12k would be enough to cover rent, food and what we owe on one car so we don’t lose it (or let the car go and put the extra money towards getting a cheap, used vehicle)

In the end, we just need to be able to survive 2 to 3 weeks until we can secure another investor, or secure a job at another company where we can have steady income. These next 2 to 3 weeks will decide the future of Jason’s business, or whether he will have to go back to working under someone else to keep our family afloat. We just need to be able to survive these next few weeks until we can get some steady income. We are both actively trying to find the means to support our family.

Barring that, we would also be extremely appreciative of anyone interested in investing in Jason's business.  Or contract work that can be thrown his way. If you didn't already know, he was Chief Information Officer for 13 years and is basically a genius at just about anything IT/data related. If you are interested in hearing more about his original analytics & reporting tools, dashboards, and healthcare expertise, among other things, please reach out to him at jason (@) brodman dot com. If you are interested in talking on the phone and don't have his number, leave a comment and we will forward that information.

Anything helps. We are so lost and ashamed to be in this place and position. We appreciate anything you are able to give, and likewise appreciate if all you can do is share this. We intend to pay every cent back to each person who helps us once we are back on our feet. We are just trying to do everything we can for our kids.

Thank you for reading.
