Help Jason get cancer treatment before it's too late

I really didn’t want to set up this appeal.

After 35 years of self-employed independence, asking for help brings me out in a cold sweat.

But I’m a single dad to amazing twin boys who mean the world to me. I want to stay strong and present for them – to keep life steady and normal while going through something that feels anything but.

In early June, I was diagnosed with a form of head and neck cancer that can affect speech, eating and everyday communication. I’ve already had two operations to remove the tumour – including a Neck Dissection (yeah, sounds like a dodgy heavy metal band, I know).

The good news? Surgery went well! And thanks to this campaign – plus private loans from some brilliant humans – I’ve covered the £29,000 cost of private radiotherapy with one of the world’s leading experts. Amazing.

This specialist’s approach gives me the best possible shot at preserving my quality of life – speech, eating, everyday function, all the basics – while avoiding unnecessary damage.

Crucially, private radiotherapy means I can start treatment within the 4–6 week ‘safe window’ after surgery. That timing could make all the difference.

As I write, the next three challenges are:

CHALLENGE 1

Find and rent London accommodation between August 22 and November 2 – close to the hospital, and close to my boys (who don’t live with me full time or in the same city).

CHALLENGE 2

Keep paying my rent in Brighton.

CHALLENGE 3

Start repaying the private loans that helped me leap into action.

BONUS CHALLENGE

Build a modest financial cushion in case this thing throws another curveball.

The heat is on.

That’s why I’ve gone against every self-reliant instinct and asked for support.

Over the coming months, this campaign’s target may shift depending on what the future throws at me – including the (hopefully unlikely!) possibility of more surgery.
