My son Jason Martinez is a proud, honorable disabled Army Veteran. He was diagnosed with FLT3+ AML Leukemia in June of 2019. Acute myeloid Leukemia is RARE and there are fewer than 200,000 cases per year.
Jason is a true warrior, he has been fighting this battle with cancer, going on his 3rd year. He is looking forward to a full recovery so he can continue with his lifetime goals.
Before his battle with cancer, Jason was so happy to have met one of his goals. He completed and graduated from a college Bio Medical Equipment Technology Program in San Antonio, Texas.
On October 2018 Jason got engaged with the love of his life. His biggest goal was to purchase a house, get married and adopt children.
On February 2019, Jason accepted a fulltime position as a Bio Medical Technician in a hospital located in Uvalde, Texas.
At the end of May while working on medical equipment, Jason was bitten on his lower leg by an insect. The bite started to look bad and was causing pain, so Jason sought medical attention. Even with medical attention the bite was not healing properly and getting worse. Why was it not healing?
On June 2019 Jason’s biggest lifetime goal was met with a huge obstacle. It was CANCER!!! Jason was diagnosed with AML Leukemia. He was admitted in the hospital and began his fight with cancer. This cancer is very aggressive and was started on chemotherapy right away.
The doctors also had to work on curing the infected leg insect bite. Jason was given another serious scenario, which was to amputate his leg below the knee if the bite didn’t heal, fortunately the doctors were able to save his leg.
During his stay in the hospital receiving chemotherapy and care for his leg, Jason received negative news. He received forms by mail to apply for Cobra Insurance. Did this mean he no longer had a fulltime job?
This was terrible!!! first he found out he had cancer and could possibly lose his leg, now he finds out he does not have his fulltime position. In the middle of his therapy, all his fulltime benefits were dropped, which included medical and life insurance. WOW!!! I, as his mom was devastated. Jason never lost faith. He knew that his goal now was to BEAT this cancer. He reassured me that everything would be OK. I always told him – “Remember, God is Good! Never lose faith”
I am blessed to have Jason as my son, I know he is a wonderful person and it’s not only because he is my son. I am proud of his accomplishments, he is intelligent, creative and full of talent. Jason is a blessing and inspiration to others. Those who really know Jason are glad they do. He has a big heart and is kind and loving. Jason is worthy of love and joy.
I admire Jason’s strength and courage. In sad times, he always finds a way to smile or even make others smile and laugh. He does not let obstacles effect his never-ending hope.
Jason is such an important and beautiful person in our family. He has brought us happiness and we wish the same for him.
I ask that you please consider donating to Jason. Help him cover cost of bills; due to living expenses, loss of income and his long medical battle with cancer. I want Jason to only focus toward his recovery.
