My name is Judy, and I am Jason’s sister. For the past two years, our family especially our mom and I have fully committed ourselves to caring for him after he suffered a devastating stroke. I made the difficult decision to put my life on hold to focus solely on his well-being, and since then, my days have been entirely devoted to his care. I visit him every single day, without exception, and my mom has stood beside me every step of the way, carrying this burden with unwavering love.

During these two years, Jason has faced an overwhelming number of challenges. He has been through five different rehabilitation centers, each time forced to adjust to new environments and unfamiliar faces. Tragically, many of these stays ended with hospital readmissions due to serious incidents that occurred under facility care.

Caring for Jason has been physically and emotionally exhausting. I do everything for him feeding him, changing him, assisting with hygiene essentially taking on the role of a CNA out of love and necessity. At times, it feels like I’ve become a parent to my own brother. Meanwhile, our mom has endured the constant heartbreak of watching her son suffer, living in a state of worry that never truly rests.

Recently, that strain took a serious toll on her health. Our mom was hospitalized after her previous heart condition returned and worsened. The stress and heartbreak of Jason’s condition caused her heart to grow weak again, and she now needs heart surgery. Watching her already exhausted from years of fear and advocacy face this new medical battle has been devastating for our family.

Through it all, we stay strong for Jason. And I stay strong for our mom. Every single day, we give them all the love, care, and advocacy we have, even when the weight feels overwhelming.
