The Alexanders Heart Surgery Bills & Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Hello neighbors,

Thank you for taking the time to be here. This is a tale, like so many others, of a sudden unexpected medical need that is pushing a family toward the edge. The Alexander family are kind, community-driven, caring people who need a little help. Felicia serves her community and kids as a para-educator; she is generous with her time and caring. Jason is a stalwart worker, provider, and active with community arts and non-profits. Dash is a rising junior at Emerson College in Boston but still takes time to support his community and friends back home with his kindness and talents.

The Story
About a month ago, while at work, Jason was feeling a bit "off." And like many folks, he would have ignored it and continued working, had he not texted Felicia and listened to her urging him to go immediately to the ER. So he did. Thankfully so, as he was suffering a heart attack. It wasn't like the ones in films or television, no clutching of the chest looking towards the heavens, no "It's the big one, I'm coming for you, Elizabeth!" Just the feeling of being "off."

After 4 days in the hospital, it was determined that a quadruple bypass was needed and scheduled.

The Need
As things are apt to do, it is here the unexpected turns a bit drastic for the family. Thankfully there is health insurance. Unfortunately, it's doing what insurance companies do, and every nickel turns into a thousand nickels, every dime, a thousand dimes.

And a recovery period of undetermined time, but one that due to Jason only being at his current job for 6 months, means there is no coverage under family leave or short-term disability available. And not enough sick / vacation time to make a dent.

Prior to the surgery the bills are rolling in, and already over 60k - and yes, insurance has covered much. Much! But much isn't all, and this is all PRE SURGERY! Post is another matter entirely!

And with school out for the summer, Felicia's income has been cut as para-educators are not salaried. (A fight for another time!)

And they wouldn't even be thinking as deductibles and bills pile up to be asking for a helping hand, but the timing has just got them in a spot. Putting this out publicly is very difficult.

Dash is headed to Prague for a summer film program, all arranged and covered well before the sudden illness. You only know what you know.

HELPING Hands
How can you be of help? Any way helps, a penny or a pound. A kind word, a hug. Your financial help will cover medical expenses and lost income, bills, and necessities during surgery and recovery.

And if you know, you know, but for any help given, if you want to share a meal, the Alexanders will cook, play a board game, a hug, a thank you.

Donate if you can. Share this fundraiser on social media if you will. Offer a kind words of support. Nothing is to little a kindness to offer.

We all know how hard life can be, and how hard it is to ask for help instead of suffering alone. Any assistance, any kindness, any...

Thank you
