On May 22nd, my best friend of 8 years, Jasmine Zunun, was in a terrible car accident that changed her life in an instant. She was rushed to the hospital where she was treated for multiple severe pelvis fractures and a collapsed lung. She was taken into surgery, where doctors stabilized her injuries with a screw in her back and a metal frame outside her body that holds her bones in place. These will remain in place for the next 3/4 months, and her road to recovery will span far beyond that. She won't be able to walk for at least five months, and even then, she'll need a walker or physical support. She most likely wont return back to work for almost a year.
Unfortunately, Jasmine does not have health insurance, which means the medical bills fall entirely on her shoulders. After ambulance rides, surgery, and almost a week in the hospital, her bills total around $120,000. We’ve set the goal to $80,000, but we are still pursuing any possible legal compensation from the accident itself. In the meantime, Jasmine urgently needs help to cover her hospital bills, ongoing physical therapy, mobility aids, and basic living expenses while she is unable to work.
The truth is, this still doesn't feel real for me. I can't even imagine how it must feel for her. One moment, half a second, and everything Jasmine had worked for and looked forward to came crashing down. She had big dreams: to start school, SAVE for school, pay off her car, travel, all on her own as she's never been one to rely on anyone, not even her parents, for help.
Jasmine is not someone who sits still. She's always on the move, juggling three jobs, hitting the gym, planning her next adventure, while making time for her loved ones. She works hard not just for herself, but for the life she envisions. In all the years I've known her, l've never seen her stop, until now.
She has saved me time and time again, and I don't think she realizes what an impact she continues to make in my life. After all, she's my bestest girl.
It breaks my heart to write this, but I’m holding onto hope that those reading might help lift her up during the most difficult chapter of her life. If you know Jasmine, you know she’ll never ask for help, even when she needs it most. So I’m asking for her.
Any amount truly, anything makes a difference. Donations will help cover her hospital bills, rehabilitation, medical equipment, and basic living expenses so she can focus on healing. We will share regular updates here on Jasmine’s recovery and how your support is making a difference.
