Help Jasmine Williams and Emani King Mack secure housing! Jasmine Williams is a current Marymount Manhattan College student heading into her junior year. Emani King Mack is a Marymount Manhattan College Alumni and is now heading into his last semester of his graduate program at the Craig Newmark School of Journalism.
On June 8th our apartment was flooded due to a drain pipe burst that resulted in the majority of our belongings being damaged and our apartment being inhabitable. Since we were unaware of the need for rental insurance for events like this, we have been forced to spend all of our savings and abuse our credit card to pay for hotels and living expenses.
Our families have only been able to provide short term financial support so that we wouldn't be forced to live in our flooded apartment. Due to the extensive repairs needed, multiple walls and ceilings have already been knocked out leaving us with no power or electricity for nearly a month now.
We have spent almost 3,000 dollars in hotels and there has not been any update on when the extensive repairs will be completed. Our current lease ends July 1st, so now we are scrambling to find a new apartment, which as of now seems impossible due to the amount of money we have spent on hotels and living necessities. We are struggling to afford moving expenses and our first and last month's rent to secure a new apartment.
We are asking for donations to help us secure, move, furnish a healthier living arrangement as soon as possible. These funds will also help us pay our outstanding payments and ultimately let us continue our college education. Thank you in advance for all your kindness and support. For those who are not able to make a monetary donation, sharing our story can help us achieve our goal.
