Help Jarrod represent Australia at the Deaflympics

Hi, I’m Jarrod McEwen-Young, and I’ve been selected to represent Australia on the Men’s Deaf Basketball Team — the Goannas — at the Deaflympics in Tokyo this November 2025.
Growing up in Gilgandra NSW, I was one of only two Deaf people. I became profoundly Deaf after contracting meningococcal meningitis as a baby. Life often felt isolating, especially trying to find where I fit in as a Deaf person raised in a hearing world.
When I joined the Australian Deaf Basketball team, everything changed. For the first time, I felt like I belonged — surrounded by people who understood me without needing to explain. The Goannas didn’t just give me teammates — they gave me confidence, direction, and belief in myself.
Ever since joining the Goannas in 2019, it has been my goal to play in the Deaflympics. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to wear the green and gold on the world stage — but I need your help to get there.
I’m aiming to raise $6,000 to help cover:
• $6,500 in tournament costs (flights, accommodation, uniforms, etc.)
• Additional travel expenses for monthly team training camps in Melbourne
Every dollar brings me closer to Tokyo and helps me proudly represent Australia and the Deaf community. Any support — big or small — means the world. Thank you for backing my journey!
