Today is Glioblastoma Awareness Day, and it feels like the right time to share an update on how my husband, Jarrod, is doing—and to ask for a little help.
Jarrod was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma in September 2024. Since then, he’s faced multiple focal seizures and increasing challenges with mobility. Recently, he was diagnosed with hemiparesis, which has affected both his leg and now his arm, making it difficult for him to get around safely.
He’s working hard with physical and occupational therapy to regain strength and navigate the stairs in our home, but we’re starting to plan for the future—just in case those stairs become too much. We’ve already had to call EMTs a few times to help get him to the hospital during emergencies, and we want to avoid that if we can.
We’ve been working with the contractor who built our deck extension to design a ramp that would allow Jarrod to safely enter and exit our home. The cost of the ramp is $8,500.
Many of you have asked how you can help—this is one way that would make a huge difference. It would ease Jarrod’s fears of falling, give me peace of mind, and help us both feel a little more secure. It would also allow us to get out of the house more easily for doctor’s appointments—and hopefully, for some fun outings too.
We often take mobility for granted. We take life for granted. But Jarrod is living each day to the fullest, working closely with his care team, and making slow but steady progress. While the tumor hasn’t grown, he is dealing with radiation necrosis, and we don’t yet know what functions might return on his right side.
If you’re able to help us build this ramp, we would be incredibly grateful. Thank you for your continued love, support, and encouragement—it means the world to us.
