Help Jaret Attend NYLF Forum in Washington, DC
Hello, it's Jaret Bosarge. I am in my sophomore year at St. Vincent de Paul High School in Petaluma, CA. I've been nominated to represent my school and community at the National Youth Leadership Forum: National Security–Diplomacy, Intelligence & Defense program in Washington, DC this summer. By attending NYLF, I will have a unique opportunity to talk directly with national security experts, learn about the latest intelligence strategies, and experience public service in action. Participating in NYLF will allow me to enhance my leadership skills and ultimately introduce me to possible career opportunities in America’s national security, intelligence, and diplomatic fields.
Programs include hearing from highly respected civilian policy makers and senior military officers who are responsible for global and national security decisions; veterans with the Wounded Warrior Project; and others involved in the implementation of national security strategies. I will engage in a real-world simulation to discover how the nation’s top policy makers employ a crisis decision-making process using critical thinking, leadership, conflict resolution, and public speaking skills to tackle complex national decisions. I will also be able to meet representatives from all branches of the military, federal agencies, military academies, and private companies to learn about the education and career opportunities available to me.
As you can see, this will be a powerful experience, enabling me to interact with respected professionals in various fields while building relationships with students who will be my future colleagues. Attending this program will allow me to further my interest in national security, and reach my career goals of attending a military academy and becoming a US Marine. During my first two years of high school, I have served on the Petaluma Youth Commission and have completed approximately 200 hours of volunteer service. I am a member of the St. Vincent Varsity Football Team where I am a 2-way starter at defensive back and receiver. I am also a leader on the St. Vincent Lacrosse Team, playing midfielder. During these two years, I have maintained a 3.5 GPA.
My participation in the NYLF program depends on whether I can raise additional funds. I am investing my own money and taking on extra jobs to raise the funds needed and to ensure I don’t miss out on this unique experience. In addition, I have already raised approximately $1,100.
