On Sunday, July 28, after one week in a moon boot due to hairline fractures, Jared noticed blood and infection coming from the front of the boot. He was taken to the ER where they quickly realized his life was in danger. He was rushed to emergency surgery for an amputation of his lower left leg. The diagnosis, he would later find out, was necrotizing fasciitis. He was septic and in critical condition. The wound was left open to drain, and Jared was pumped full of antibiotics in an attempt to save his life. Thankfully, by Thursday, August 2, the bacteria had cleared enough that the surgical team was able to perform a second "clean" amputation above the knee.
Jared left the hospital on Sunday, August 5, for an inpatient rehabilitation hospital. He worked diligently with physical and occupational therapists to build his strength and learn how to navigate the world again. After only 9 days, Jared was released to go home.
Jared's life has forever been altered by these tragic events, but he has maintained a positive outlook throughout the ordeal. Although he hopes to get his prosthesis soon, Jared must file for disability. He takes pride in his work, however, operating forklifts will be too taxing on his remaining leg due to diabetic neuropathy.
I am requesting assistance with monthly expenses and medical copays until Jared can receive his first disability payment. All proceeds will go to Jared Kline. Any help is greatly appreciated.
