Jared, 28/M, is a bright, generous, and sincere young man with autism who spent much of his life caring for his younger autistic brother in the household of his parents. Unfortunately, they engaged in domestic violence and narcissistic abuse contributing to Jared’s worsening mental and physical health, sabotaging his goals and relationships, and ultimately leading to Jared’s departure from their home. Since, he’s bounced around from one unstable situation to another, selling his few and beloved belongings to get by in environments often rife with domestic abuse.
For the past year he played the role of housekeeper with two individuals whose hoarding tendencies were beyond “anything you probably imagine”, in exchange for rent and cleaning. He made efforts to seek state assistance for disability and achieve greater health and independence for himself and the household.
Jared sacrificed his limited resources to help clean up a 15 yard dumpster worth of waste including food discarded on the floor, pee bottles, waste from ten cats and a dog that were inadequately cared for. His roommate's tendencies became too self-destructive for all of them, leaving the home uninhabitable. Facing homelessness and isolation left on a property without any utilities, Jared reached out to his (abusive) family to inform them and seek advice. This led to an invitation from his uncle to stay with him while Jared waited on his SSI court hearing. After three days of staying in his uncle’s basement, he was hit with absurd threats about their stated agreement, and they attempted to persuade him to return home; back to the abusive and controlling household of his parents. Now he is stranded in the countryside, half a day's walk to the nearest resource center.
Jared explored many government and non-profit options for support, to such an extent that social workers are impressed with his efforts and determination but dismayed and unable to offer him the specific resources he needs. Doctors have already advised he is in no condition to work part-time and that homelessness could cause further deterioration to his health. He needs to survive until November 6th. He needs to store his belongings, which consist mostly of medical, important personal documents, art supplies, and some clothing.
That’s why our goal for this GoFundMe is $7000. This is the amount he needs to get himself and his belongings to a stable shelter until his court date. After approval, there is a waiting period before his funds. With a successful campaign, we will be able to secure a long-term housing situation for Jared, ensuring a successful future for him.
