Hello, everyone. I am Trisha Conklin, wife to Jared Conklin. Honestly, this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write…
Background: Jared got diagnosed with testicular cancer in November this year (2024). The diagnoses resulted in a radical orchiectomy (a surgery to remove the affected testicle) to take away any risk of spreading/further spreading. The pathology results revealed that there were two types of cancers - Seminoma and Teratoma. After having a CT scan done, we received news that the cancer had unfortunately already spread to several lymph nodes in his back. He had a biopsy done on one of the lymph nodes to see what types of cancers are present on them. It’s been a while, but we are still waiting on the pathology results for that. He is considered to have Stage 2B Testicular Cancer.
Current Happenings: Jared will be starting chemotherapy on Monday, December 16, 2024 to hopefully kill all the cancerous cells that are not resistant to chemo (more information on that below). He will be on a 12 week chemo schedule, and during that time, he won’t be able to work. He will be receiving short term disability pay once a month, but the amount will not be nearly enough to sustain us financially.
Medical Future: The pathology results from his lymph node biopsy will determine what happens after he is finished with chemotherapy. If Teratoma is present, he will have to have a lymph node dissection surgery (RPLND) since Teratoma is resistant to chemotherapy. This would end up being a bigger surgery due to the amount of lymph nodes affected, and he would be admitted into the hospital for a time. This would also result in being out of work for longer too.
About Jared: Jared just turned 27 on December 9th. He is such a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend. He has been in a lot of physical pain due to the cancer, but he has been toughing it out for us, going to work his physical job everyday to provide while he is able. He works in Howell, Michigan, and Howell is also where we currently live. He has been emotionally strong through all the diagnosing, doctor appointments, his surgery, and treatment plans. He is our rock, and my heart couldn’t be more full of gratitude for the person God made him to be for our family.
In Conclusion: I don’t think anything could have prepared us for all this news. It has changed our lives, and things will only be more difficult from here. I will post updates as we receive information from Jared’s medical team.
We have never been the kind of people to ask for help, but we have been encouraged by others to open up this GoFundMe. As much as we hate to admit it, we really do need help financially through all this. We have our regular bills and expenses, rent has to be paid, and we will have new medical bills as we go through this whole process.
I understand that life has been pretty financially rough for so so many others, so there is no pressure at all to donate. But I just want to say thank you in advance to those who are able to or feel led to donate.
As people after God’s heart, we truly believe that God has allowed this to happen to Jared for a specific reason. And although we may not ever understand why, we completely have put our trust Him and the plans He has for us and on Jared’s life. We ask that all our brothers and sisters in Christ would please be praying for us.
Thank you all, God bless, and have a Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
Trisha Conklin
