Hello, my name is Jared. In 2002 when I was 1 year old my parents brought me into the United States on a tourist visa. We entered an reentered several times before finally settling in 2010 when I was 8 years old. Due to the fact that I wasn't in school from 2010-2012 I can't get DACA as I can't prove that I was in the US; my only option is to obtain an adjustment of status. This is going to be expensive: $5000 for a lawyer, $1800 in government fees, and potentially an additional $1000 if we need to file a waiver. I obviously am limited in how much money I am able to make as I am undocumented, and my mother is not financially able to help. I am terrified of having to go back to Mexico. The last time my family moved to the US it was because my father (who is not in my life) got in trouble with the cartel and they threatened my entire family. On top of that, my entire life is in the United States. My three siblings were born here, I made all of my friends here, I graduated from high school here; I don't have anything in Mexico. I would really like to be able to adjust my status so that I can have more opportunities, go to college, get health insurance, start a career, and of course so that I can feel more secure living in the only country I have ever known. I have been so appreciative of all the help everyone in my life has given me so far. I wish I could afford to do this on my own, but I can't. What I can do is promise that when I get permanent residency I will continue to work hard to be a valuable member of the community and make the most of the opportunity. Thank you so much.
