Jantina is a single mother carrying a weight no parent should ever have to bear. Her beautiful 6-year-old daughter tragically lost her life in a devastating hit-and-run car accident. The trauma didn’t end there — because Jantina was driving without a license at the time, she now carries legal consequences and the overwhelming emotional burden of being charged in connection with her own child’s death. The grief, guilt, and heartbreak follow her every single day.

Since that tragedy, Jantina has been fighting a quiet battle with depression. Some days it makes it hard for her to smile, to laugh, or to feel like the joyful, carefree mother she once was — but despite everything, she continues to show up and do her best. She continues to try, because that’s who she is.

Recently, she welcomed a new baby into the world — now just 4 months old. Instead of finding stability, she faced another painful loss when the child’s father left, telling her he could not love her the way she needed because she was “a broken woman” after losing her daughter. Now she faces motherhood again largely on her own, while still carrying deep grief and emotional wounds.

And yet, even through all of this, Jantina’s kindness remains. When I knocked on her door asking for help, she didn’t hesitate. Despite her own struggles, she was willing to help someone else — a reflection of her compassionate and generous heart.
