Help Jan’s life be easier and safer at hospital appts

Donation protected
Hi guys it’s Jan,
Asking for ur help and understanding too , I’m doing this page as I’m getting to the end of my tether I’m sadly having more and more outpatient appointments and I have to be honest it fills me with dread not the appointment itself but it’s the basic fact of I’m going to need to be examined but how do they get me out of my wheelchair ? As I only have one working leg ! You would think that’s ok they have a machine to get me out and help my onto the examination bed ? but u would be surprised but then shocked how many hospitals or clinics DONT HAVE ONE !

So pls I’m asking for donations however big or small to help me purchase an foldable standing frame & accessorises so that this will make a huge difference firstly with the stress and anxiety but also knowing that I can attend my appointments & then being given access safely from my wheelchair to the examination tables & back again !
But not only that but also outside of hospital this standing frame will also help massively for access in disabled toilets for transfers to use changing room facilities and toilets too !

So as most of you know 9 years ago I had a stroke & 2 brain haemorrhages on the right side of my head & I had to learn how to walk and talk again ! I lost the use of my left arm ( hence the right hand brain bleed it wiped out the use of it ) but I also gained the use of my legs and began to learn to walk again & also my speech came back after a while so I had to learn how to speak properly and at a regular speed again ! ( some I know wished that I had stayed silent lol ! ) but now I can’t walk again I only have one working leg now after breaking my Tib & Fib in 3 places in my left leg this was through Covid times so u can imagine that it was horrific enough in itself but I couldn’t get any physio’s to come to the house to give me physio so I haven’t walked on it now for over 5 yrs & I will never walk again hence I only having one working leg my right one & as I’ve yet to learn how to walk on just one leg ! So I have had people ie Nurses & Drs help me out with of my wheelchair , whilst standing on one leg like a with only there shoulders to lean on and after my Stroke I only now have one working hand /arm to hold onto their arm to steady myself & then they have expected me to hop to the bedside ! It’s got Health and Safety written all over it and dangerous and even more injuries and a hospital stay too ! ! I’ve also been in A & E many times and again it’s had to be Nurses or Drs to help me back into my chair & in on one visit ive even had to use my slide board ( a hard plastic banana shaped board )to slide off the edge of the bed and carefully move myself across it back into my wheelchair !!! I can’t even go to my Drs surgery as it’s the same ?
So what is going on for wheelchair users it’s totally unacceptable don’t WE still need to be examined and check to see if we need further tests or further treatment OR even worse treatment for a condition ?
I have even had an appointment for me to have a test for osteoporosis a Dexa scan for Bone Density a major part in our health to see if there are strong or brittle ! But when I called them to ask for a standing frame they flatly said we DONT HAVE ONE SO U CANT HAVE THE SCAN DONE ? They sent me a letter stating the same ? STILL TO DATE I STILL HAVENT HAD ONE !! But today if I read my medical notes it states that I have Established Osteoporosis ??? How and I have to explain everytime to the drs in front of me ,when there bring up I. they bring it up as it could affect future meds I’ve been refused the test so how can I be IF I’ve NEVER been tested for it either ! My major argument about it is if I do have it why am I not on medication for it ?

Sadly I still have to plead with hospitals every time I make an appt to have a standing frame available ! It’s as if I’ve asked for the world peace ! They either do not know what I’m talking about or they say we don’t have one of those or we will try to get one , but then I arrive with extremely an high level of anxiety and they don’t have one at all then it’s a wasted appt !

it’s so sad that the world as it is now isn’t ! But THE Goverment and companies say we are now living in a much better place and we are fully “ wheelchair/Disability aware/ accessible and many places are “ accessible to a degree “ but all I have to say is WELL STOP THE FRONT PAGES U ARE NOT THERE YET & WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO !

BREAKING NEWS :
I’m starting a one woman campaign locally with the local P.A.L.S departments in our Hospital's and our local DHC trust of our GP surgeries to also obtain standing frames too , to encourage & welcome more wheelchair users to have come & have examinations, tests & treatments widely available to users too !
ALSO IT HAS TO BE A MUST by ALL Hospitals & Drs at the time of booking any appointment for ALL PATIENTS they MUST BE ASKING THE QUESTION DO U HAVE ANY MOBILITY ISSUES?
If do then a standing frame or hoist is available at the appointment for when the patient arrives !

Thank u for taking the time to either donate or read my plight I truly hope I can get this standing frame but also continue to make Organisations aware and help all wheelchair users be safer too.

( they’ve picked on the wrong South Londoner that’s for sure )

thanks
Jan
