My name is Janice Moss, and I’m a college student at Kent State University working to rebuild my life after losing everything. A few months ago, I was forced to leave my home with nothing—no stability, no consistent access to food, and no safe place to return to. Since then, I’ve been moving from hotel to hotel, trying to get by after losing my home. The constant moving and financial strain have made it nearly impossible to keep up with my studies or find a stable place to live.
Throughout this time, a family friend has been helping as much as he can, and his kids have been the ones giving me hope to keep going. Their support, even in small ways, has made a real difference as I try to rebuild.
On top of these challenges, I’ve been coming to terms with the abuse I experienced as a child. Facing these memories while trying to hold onto my education and sense of purpose has been incredibly difficult. I reached out to my counselor at the start of the year to switch to online classes, but the classes were full. Without consistent Wi-Fi, transportation, or a quiet place to study, I’ve fallen behind in school and struggled to complete assignments. Even group projects have been hard to manage because I’ve been doing everything alone, just trying to stay afloat.
Right now, I’m asking for help to cover temporary housing, food, and school-related costs, as well as basic needs like clothes and hygiene items. I’m studying International Affairs and considering switching my major to Law, with the hope of one day helping others who have experienced the same kind of trauma I have and helping them find justice. Your support will help me find stability, finish my degree, and begin to heal from my past. Thank you for reading my story and for any help you can give—your kindness truly means a lot.
