It could happen to any of us…This time, it happened to a young mother of two teens, a girl of 15 and a boy of 19, and she needs our help. Please help a most promising teacher get through a very trying time in her life.
How can one begin to describe one of the most beautiful and loving individual they have ever met? Her name is Janey and she is a public-school teacher, married to one of the most dedicated youth baseball coaches at Miami Phenoms Academy at Boys and Girls Club. She was born in Havana Cuba 41 years ago. In fact, it was there that her passion for education began.
Janey and her family migrated to Miami, Florida in 2015. She immediately began working in the finance industry while studying at night to continue her quest to be the teacher she was in Cuba. Janey’s hard work and study ethics would land her an offer to join the English Language Arts Department at Hammocks Middle School. She loves what she does so much that Janey was also nominated as Rookie teacher of the year within few months.
Days following her return to work from Winter Break of 2018, Janey received a call from her hematologist asking her to rush to the hospital as she would need to be admitted. And it was that swiftly and quietly that her life became forever different. On January 18h, of 2019, two days following her admission, Janey would learn that she had mixed phenotypes acute leukemia that would required immediate and aggressive intervention thru chemotherapy.
Every once in a while, we hear about a person who stands out because of their whole-hearted goodness – well, that’s Janey. Janey is a daughter, a sister, a mother, a wife and the most amazing individual you’d want to meet. In an instant, her smile lights up a room as well as your heart! It is her optimism and determination that are infectious! For everyone that has been lucky enough to have met her, they know that she is one of the strongest and good spirited human beings they’ve come across.
Janey needs our help and we want nothing more than for her to focus her energy on her healing and recovery. We need her to get healthy so that she can continue dedicating her time to her lovely family and our youth at Hammocks Middle School, so that they can be blessed with having her as part of their lives again.
