Hello, my name is Janett Page, & I am a 22 y/o black trans woman. I've been living on my own since I was kicked out at 18. I've recently suffered from a suicide crisis which led to me being in the psych ward & out of work for weeks. My rent has recently gone up in the last few months & I am behind on payments and am facing eviction and food instability. I suffer from a major depressive disorder, anxiety, and CPTSD which, in conjunction with being black and trans, is an unfortunate reality that I am now living proof of these statistics.
When I first moved out, I was couch hopping and had no real idea when I would achieve stable housing. To be put back in this situation where I may have to say goodbye to my possessions that I've worked years to achieve for is beyond frightening. So many shelters are always at capacity because of the amount of people suffering from homelessness, and knowing just how unsafe the world is for women makes me afraid to not have somewhere safe to reside in. Furthermore, to even get to many of these places, especially doctor appointments, I rely on public transportations such as the MTA, and with the recent fare increases, I'm struggling to get by.
I've suffered discrimination from my previous job for being a vocal black trans woman. I know what its like to be othered, and I always try to do my best to advocate for others, but my voice is slowly wavering. I'm tired of always having to fight about basic rights and my existence to the world.
No amount of words I say will be proper enough to fit the situation that I'm in, and with my unfamiliarity with the Gofundme process, I have no clue how many my story will even reach. I would never wish anyone to experience the things that I have, but the mental toll that I've been suffering in silence is devastating & I recognize that I NEED help. If you are able, please donate any amount, and share and repost to get my story out there. I want to fight to live in this world, but it takes a village to do so.
