Can you imagine not being able to breathe in your own home? Or having to pay thousands of dollars for remediation, throwing out almost everything you own, living with relatives for over a year, and then still having to sell your house because you continued to experience respiratory and neurological symptoms from it. Mold is extremely complex and multifaceted in its impact on you.
We are reaching out for support for our friend, Janet, and her family. Over the past year and a half, they have wrestled with overwhelming financial and emotional crises due to toxic mold issues in their home. They sold their house and moved into a new one, hoping to start anew.
While living in their original house, the family was getting sick often, with symptoms intensifying over time, gradually making the home uninhabitable. Despite having a mold inspection before moving into their new home, they discovered toxic mold a week after purchasing it. They attempted to hold the mold inspection company accountable but were unsuccessful, leaving them with a significant financial strain. The mold remediation and filtration that had to be installed to make their home habitable cost over $20,000.
Their funds have been depleted by the many repair costs (over $50,000 total from paying for mold assessments and remediation in their original house and current house), with additional costs of having to dispose of and replace most of their possessions, including their furniture.
In addition to their financial struggles, every family member is now dealing with health complications due to the mold allergies they have developed. It is hard to wrap your mind around this but a good analogy would be if you had a massive fire in one room of your house, you would be unable to live in it because of the smoke contamination on everything. This is what the mold has done to every item in their home. They continue to have to throw out many of their belongings as they try to make their house habitable.
To add to their struggle, they recently found toxic mold again when the flooring under their leaking refrigerator had to be pulled up! The mold recontaminated everything in the home which had been painstakingly sanitized from the previous exposure.
Their “nomadic” lifestyle is only intensifying the feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, and distress they have been dealing with for over 18 months. Today, many of their belongings remain sealed in bags, and the family continues to struggle with breathing issues, pain, headaches, and exhaustion. This ongoing instability has taken a tremendous emotional and financial toll.
Janet and her family are loving, generous people who would help anyone in need. Now, they need help themselves.
If you are able, please consider supporting this family in any way you can. Every donation helps them move closer to health, stability, and peace. Thank you for your kindness.
