Beloved community member Janet Reynolds fell ill a few months ago, and needs our support. Since no one can tell her story like she can, Janet’s words are below.

What Happened?!?

I had just come off of a wonderful reading and performance at the Courtyard in Bisbee. It was a lovely time and well received. The following morning, I felt unwell with  a fever and stayed in bed. 2 days later Bob found me at our home, unable to stand or speak. He drove me to the ER at the Copper Queen Hospital, where I was stabilized. The on-duty Doc made the decision to send me to Tucson Medical Center for further assessment. Upon arrival, I was given extensive testing and evaluation. A team of physicians attended me. I have no memory of the three weeks I was there. My diagnosis came at the end of that time, Spinal Meningitis secondary to West Nile Virus.

I was released to Haven Health Rehabilitation Center closer to home, in Sierra Vista, for further treatment and Physical Therapy.

I was there for another 3 weeks.

Finally home and in my own surroundings, I am making progress in gaining back my strength and stamina. Continued labs to monitor my well being, rest and Physical Therapy are the protocol for recovery.

I am exceedingly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from Bisbee’s finest folks. Thank you.    

This is the time when the bills not covered by my Medicare copay are coming in. If you are able to help me cover the copayments, I am forever grateful.

It is in times like these where we see demonstrated, how loved and appreciated we really are. I have experienced many heartfelt hugs and “welcome home”, since my return. I feel honored and grateful.
