Help Janet Bruce Celebrate Holidays with Family

My mother, Janet Bruce, has dementia and has been living under my care for 2-years now. A few months ago, I purchased and renovated a 1985 29' Fleetwood camper trailer. Janet, her dog Sara and I then set out on what would likely be the last great adventure of her lifetime. We visited friends and family in Redmond, Oregon (my hometown), Spokane, Washington (her hometown), Sandpoint, Idaho, and Helena, Montana.

We were making our way to Yellowstone for her birthday when we got hit by a giant gust of wind, fishtailed, and wrecked. Luckily there were no other vehicles involved, and no serious injuries sustained. We are both, however, quite sore. Worse, we lost both our SUV and our home.

Janet, Sara, and I had planned to spend the winter in our camper trailer. We now need to come up with a new plan. I just bought a used car and booked several weeks in an Airbnb, draining both of our savings accounts.

Janet has a retirement income of $1,600 per month. I collect $1,000 per month from the state as her certified in-home care provider and pick up odd jobs along the way. I'm uncomfortable leaving her for more than a couple hours at a time (with a movie on) unless I have someone else to stay with her. In fact, I recently had my first full weekend off in nearly 2-years! Thank you Aunt Monkey, Glacier National Park is breathtaking!

I have opened an insurance claim on both vehicles but the adjuster warned me that it will be more than a month until they are even able to process the trailer through their facility. Apparently, there's been an excessive number of RV accidents recently as people look to escape home isolation.

Janet has medicare and is fully approved to move into a memory care facility. We've picked out our favorite one and they have immediate availability. The problem is if she moves in under the current COVID-19 situation, she would not be able to leave and we would only be able to visit her through a glass window during scheduled visitation hours. Sounds like prison to me and a terrible way to spend the holidays.

I'm asking for your help so that I can keep my mother under my care at least until the end of the year or whenever restrictions are lifted. We'd like to spend Christmas with our family (including Janet's youngest son and grandkids) in central Oregon, and if possible, Thanksgiving with our extended family (Janet's brother, kids, and grandkids) in California.

Any funds donated through this campaign will be used to secure comfortable lodging and hopefully take my mother on a few more exciting outings. Please flip us a five, hand us a hundo, kick us a K or make any other contribution (financial or otherwise) that brings joy to your heart.

Joyfully,

Lennon, Janet, and Sara
