Help Janelle Beat Cancer—Again
Hi, my name is Kat, I am lucky to be a friend of Janelle Cater. If you are reading this you know Janelle is the kind of friend who will literally drop anything to help a friend in need. I experienced this first hand after the birth of my baby boy. Janelle recognized that I had severe postpartum depression. After my husband went back to work she came to my house almost every day and held and loved on my newborn so that I could shower/nap/pump. She loved me and my son in such a scary, vulnerable and pivotal time. Through her life and work Janelle has poured into SO many lives and families in her community. Janelle is full of strength and passion as I am sure you know. Much of her enthusiasm for life comes from serious challenges she has faced herself.
Janelle had breast cancer after the birth of her (adorable, hilarious, and precocious) daughter Katrin. She had a double mastectomy, reconstruction and then another surgery for nerve pain. She was cancer free for 3 years. This past year she has had a "pesky broken rib" (as only a record-holding Crossfit athlete would say). This pesky rib has been perpetually broken because it is actually weakened from cancer. She now has bone cancer in her right rib, pelvis and sacrum. That means this is now stage 4 cancer. There will be many biopsies, surgeries, scans, radiation, possibly chemo, treatment and lots of rehab in the near future for Janelle. There will be countless trips to Sacramento (2.5 hrs from their home) which will lead to lots of childcare and job dilemmas, time away from family and friends. And then there will be medical bills. Lots of them.
Janelle and Jeff are going to need a lot of help. With childcare, meals, house cleaning, food prepping, garden tending, traveling, but also with finances. They will likely miss a lot of work. The last thing this amazing family needs is the burden of medical debt. So here is a big ask: please consider giving generously to the Caters. You can give financially through this GoFundMe account. You can give your time, your prayers, your culinary delights, your energy, but if you are in a place of means, please give your money as well. Every small financial gift will help. Thank you.
