Help Janel Larvin Fight Brain Cancer
On January 22nd of this year, my family’s entire world was turned upside down. My sister Janel was at work when she started to experience severe confusion and memory issues – symptoms she had been feeling sporadically for a few weeks. She was taken to St. Mary’s Emergency Room by a co-worker where they did an MRI and found a brain tumor. After several days of back and forth with the hospital and insurance, we were able to get her transferred to Jackson Memorial in Miami where she immediately underwent a craniotomy. The neurosurgeon was able to remove part of the tumor but not all of it due to where it is located. Two days later she was discharged and returned home to recover while we waited for results. We learned of those results last week…Janel was diagnosed with a high-grade glioblastoma, an aggressive type of cancer.
In a couple of weeks, she will begin her treatment journey. 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy followed by a month break and an MRI. Then chemotherapy for 5 days/month for 6-12 months. She is in good spirits as she gets ready to tackle the next phase of her life. We are optimistic and hopeful that aggressively treating this illness will have positive results.
Janel is a wonderful mother to her two boys, Jacob (15) and Greyson (9 months) and her fiancé Nehemiah’s kids Aidan (13) and Bella (9). She is a loving and thoughtful sister, daughter, partner, and friend.
As you can imagine, Janel is not able to work and with a new house and kids at home – medical costs are adding up quickly. Should you be able to donate, all funds will be given to Janel and her family. Donations will be used to help pay for treatment, hospital stays, travel to and from the hospital, ongoing care and medical costs that will happen along the way.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this regardless if you can donate or not. I wish you all good health and happiness in 2021.
Thanks,
Kerrie Larvin
