Hi, my name is Janeal Edwards, and I’m a rising senior at Howard University, proudly majoring in Health Management. I’m originally from Queens, New York, by way of Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania. As the first in my Jamaican immigrant family to pursue a bachelor’s degree, this journey has meant everything to me, not just for myself.
Attending Howard has been the opportunity of a lifetime. For a Black girl who always dreamed of being part of something bigger than herself, Howard became more than just a school; it became a symbol of hope, faith, and legacy.
Since I was 13, I’ve worked hard and carried myself with quiet independence. I’ve never been one to ask for help figuring things out on my own has been my way. At one point during my college journey, I held down two jobs, navigated a year without campus housing, and still pushed through with determination. I’ve applied for scholarships, budgeted carefully, and leaned on faith the entire way. While now unfortunately having a 29k balance.
Despite every effort, I’m now facing a tuition gap that threatens to pause everything I’ve worked for. With no cosigner to apply for private loans, limited family financial support, and a mom who had to retire early for medical reasons, I’m turning to my community for the first time for help.
If you’ve read this far, thank you. Your time alone means the world. Whether you're able to donate, share, pray, or send encouragement to my Instagram @withlovejaneal every act of kindness is deeply appreciated. By God’s grace and through the love of others, I’ve made it this far. With just a little more support, I know I can make it to graduation and beyond.
Thank you for believing in me.
With gratitude,
Janeal
