Hi, I'm Jane — a young, multiracial, intersex woman living in the Twin Cities.
A year and a half ago I moved here to escape toxic living situations and build independence. What I didn't anticipate was how significantly my health and neurodivergence would shape that journey. I spent the past year focused on getting properly diagnosed and stabilized — and I got a good way there. I now have a care team I trust: a counselor I've worked with for nearly a decade, a care coordinator, a PHP program, and physical and occupational therapists.
What I haven't been able to secure is stable housing or consistent work. Last week I found myself homeless — and quickly discovered that the shelter system isn't compatible with my needs. I can't sit, bend, or lift for extended periods. I have significant executive function and emotional regulation challenges. I need a relatively quiet, private space to make medical calls, attend telehealth appointments, and plan my next steps. I don't qualify for coordinated entry, group homes, or intensive rehab — which leaves private housing as my most viable option.
I'm already selling belongings to save up for a private room. This GoFundMe is supplemental — every bit helps me get to stable ground faster.
I genuinely believe I'll get there. I just need a little runway.
Thank you.
05/17/26 Update----
Wow, awesome!!! We have some momentum. I'm still listing belongings to sell- so my eggs aren't all in one basket, but while we're at it, if we could get anywhere near a month's rent, that'd be super!! I've increased my goal to $1,200 :)
